Powerpoint crashes when I go into the Open Dialog

I'm running Powerpoint 2000 and every time I go to the Open Dialog
(ie., File, Open) and the dialog box comes up at My Documents, either
immediately, or shortly thereafter, I get an exception error and PP
crashes and restarts. I've tried reinstalling Powerpoint and it
didn't help. Any suggestions?

Does the same or similar problem occur if you open PPT files by doubleclicking
them in Windows Explorer or by dragging them onto the PPT title bar?

If not, that at least gives you a workaround. If so, it changes the problem a
bit.
