PowerPoint can't insert an AVI file created with MPEG-4 v2 video c

I have some AVI file that is created with the Microsoft MPEG4 v2 video codec.
This avi file can be played with the Windows Media Player. I need to insert
it to a PowerPoint(version 9) presentation, but it failed. I tryed to insert
some other AVI files like uncompressed and it worked fine. Why can't the
MPEG4 v2 codec be recognizable by the PowerPoint application?

I read all that. It did not help me much. I have OS Windows XP and the
MS-MPEG4 v2 codec is installed on my PC properly. I checked the MCI
extensions folder in the Registry Editor and everything looks fine. What do I
need to do more to insert my avi file into the PowerPoint presentation?

Did you try the test described at the second link TAJ gave you? It advises
you to go to Start/Run and type in mplay32.exe and try your video clip
there. If it doesn't run there, it's not going to run in PPT. If it does run
there, then it should run in PPT and you'll want to visit
http://www.echosvoice.com/tshoot_video2.htm for additional troubleshooting
steps.

I suspect that the real issue here is that PPT doesn't really like the MPEG4
codec. If I were in your shoes, I'd recompress the video with a more
standard codec -- there's a list of those as well on the 2nd link TAJ gave
you.

I tryed to play the AVI file with the mplay32.exe and it worked. Finally I
managed to insert this AVI file into the PPT only by 'Insert'->'Object'
interface. It seems the problem is in the code of the PPT. Thanks for your
help.
