PowerPoint 2007 will not allow the group function

I grouped objects in a presentation, added new objects, did a ungroup,
selected all and tried to group again. PP will not allow this, as the Group
selections are grayed out. Any ideas?

PPT 2007 dont allow grouping some shapes like placeholder. Please check
avoiding those shapes and group. Or you can make those contents outside those
shapes and group it

The Group button may not be available if the shape, picture or object has
been inserted into a placeholder or you are trying to group a placeholder, as
placeholders can not be grouped with other shapes, pictures, objects. Move
the shape, picture, or object to another location on your slide outside of
the placeholder or remove the placeholder from the objects that you want to
group.

Also, pictures that have been added using the photo album feature cannot be
grouped in PPT 2007. (I learned that just a few days ago!)
