PowerPoint 2007 PDF export with "Notes Pages" removes searchable t

I have been experimenting with the PDF export capability of PowerPoint. I
have noticed if I set "Publish what" as "Notes pages", then my PowerPoint
notes appear under my slides as expected.

However the actual text of my slide content is no longer selectable within
Acrobat. For all other values of "Publish what", the text is selectable.
However for "Notes pages", it seems the export converts my entire slide into
an image.

Is this the intended behaviour? It is certainly not desirable from my
perspective. I would like all of my text (slide content and notes) to be
selectable within Acrobat.

Is there a setting to make this work or is this a bug/feature?

I would say, yes. The thumbnail on the notes page in PowerPoint is an image
of the slide. Hence the same in the PDF output.

It doesn't behave this way in PP2003; you can search both the Slides and the Notes. I suppose Microsoft thought they were fixing it in 2007 by having the output match the Notes page exactly, but it is a problem for us because they don't give us a way to include both slides and notes and have both be searchable in 2007.
