My daughter needs to work on a presentation that she began at school in Powerpoint 2002. I just purchased the student version of powerpoint 2003 for my daughter to use at home, but she wants to work on a presentation that she started at school in powerpoint 2002 and/or create a presentation at home that she can show in class. I am fairly sure 2003 will open 2002, but will powerpoint 2002 open and read 2003 files????? Please help. Her project is due next week and there's not much time to figure out what to do. Thanks.
PPT 2002 and 2003 are very, very similar. The biggest difference in the
two, I believe, is the Package for CD option in PPT 2003.
So the upshot is that your daughter should have no problems working on
her presentation in 2003 and opening it in 2002 at school.
Just be sure that if she's using multimedia (audio, movies, etc.), she
follows best practices by putting those in the folder along with her
presentation before inserting them into her presentation. She'll also
need to transport those multimedia files along with her presentation
when she takes it to school.
Or she could just use the package for CD option in 2003 to gather all
the files in one place when she's finished. I'd recommend package for CD
to a folder then burning those files to CD. I'd probably also click the
"options" button when I package and deselect the "include Viewer"
option. That will ensure that your daughter has all the linked files she
needs, but that the presentation will run from PPT 2002 on the school's
computer and not the PPT 2003 Viewer.
Also caution her to use fonts which are available on the school's
computer. That will make her life easier in the long run.
