I am having trouble inserting from a file a Quicktime video
file into a presentation?

The error message states:
PoerPoint Couldn't insert a movie from the slected file.
Either the file is non-standard, or Quicktime is not
installed properly.

I have Quicktime 6.3 loaded
I have PowerPoint 2000.

HELP?

I'm getting this same error message. Article you referred to didn't help. I have movies that were all captured the same way. Some insert in PowerPoint with ease. On others, I get the message that "file is either non-standard of QuickTime is not installed properly." I use Windows Media Player. When I hyperlink to the movie from within PowerPoint it plays. But when I try to insert, I get the error message

I'm using PPt 2002, Windows 2000. I hope someone can help me. I need to insert this last slide into my presentation, and I'll be finished in time to celebrate the New Year

If the movies were all captured and saved with the same codec, it's
quite odd that some will insert and others won't. I wonder if your
save/export settings got changed somewhere in the process. What format
are these movies, anyway? Are they MOV files, or are they something
else?

That's because when you hyperlink to a movie, PPT calls
whatever-program-Windows-has-associated-with-the movie-extension to play
the file. When you insert the file, PPT uses the MCI Media Player to
play the file.

this much better and much more thoroughly.

Sorry, it's after New Year's Eve, but you might try
resaving/re-exporting the files to a more standard video format. The
multimedia tutorial link above explains what those are, too. MPEG-1
might be a good choice. I believe QuickTime Pro will allow you to save
in that format.

I found out what was wrong. I am using Movie Star that came with my Dazzle 200. As I was capturing the video, I checked outside the software (in Explore), saw some mpegs and thought I could just insert them from there. New to all this!

I got a good night's rest and woke up thinking straighter. I was trying to insert files that hadn't been rendered. I'm OK now, except that in my movie, my voice is ahead of my mouth. I'm thinking I need to render the mpeg on a faster computer. What do you think?

Ahh, yeah, that would be the problem!

Mmm, well, yeah, that probably is worth a try. Capturing/rendering video
can eat up a lot of resources.
