Power Supply Recommendations

Brian

Hi!

I am looking for some power supply recommendations. The one I have in the
cheap case I bought just isn't cutting it anymore. It is currently 350
watts.

I have an ASUS P4B motherboard, 256K RAM, Pentium 4 (Northwood) 1.6 gig, 80
gig drive, 100 gig drive, 4 USB devices, GeForce 4 MX, USR Controller Based
Modem, Pinnacle Deluxe A/V capture card, SoundBlaster Live, Toshiba DVD
drive, Sony DVD Writer, Floppy drive.

I know I should go for 400 watts + but I am also on a budget. I am very wary
of the $19.00 500 watt supplies. Any suggestions on a good one at a fair
price? Would like ANTEC but afraid they may be too pricey.

Thanks,
Brian

Well, since the recent addition of my controller based modem, I've been
experiencing strange "fan noise" from the supply when rendering video for
long periods of time. Also, my rendering has slowed down to a crawl too but
not sure if low power is the cause.

My case with the supply was only $20.00.

Fortron FSP400-60PFN (reliable quality PSU and many of the truly quiet PSUs
are actually slightly modified versions of this model, Nexus, Zalman,
Silenx...)

That's a fair bit of hardware. You should be afraid of $20 power supplies.
Newegg has several Antec, Sparkle and Enermax models under $80US.
Antec P4 ATX12V 400 Watt Power Supply With 2 Fans - Retail ATX12V Form
Factor, 2.03 compliant for Pentium 4 Model # SL400 $60 at Newegg.

FSP/Sparkle/SPI 350W, or Antec.
Better to go for a quality power supply than the (very) cheap offerings.

You can always make it silent with a NMB, Panaflo or PAPST/EBM fan.
