I am going to build a Core 2 Duo machine and wanted to know what power
supply I should be looking for, would a 600 watt be ok?

Anyone recommend a good 'quiet' make please?

Thanks guys

This is NOT a matter of "bigger is better" or in this case "More wattage is better".
QUALITY is number one. One will pay more for this.
Stick to the major manufacturers. The CPU is just one consideration. The video card, how
many drives, fans, accessories etc. are all part of the scheme of things. Many web pages
about how to calculate overall wattage needed. Google is your friend.

For a non-gaming Core2 Duo (65W processor) rig, 350W could be enough.

Only a complete hardware inventory makes it possible to guess the range of
supply needed. Many sites that offer advice, will suggest
a larger supply than is needed.

A $50 350W supply may have a more honest rating than a $25 600W
supply, so if you see a bargain, think twice. Newegg has a lot of
customer reviews, and reading the reviews for the $25 supplies will
tell you what to expect.

PC Power and Cooling 'Silencer' series are very good quality and very
quiet compared to some others. As far as wattage goes, a lot depends on what
else you are putting in your system. A basic 2 HDD system with a DVD-RW and
a video card like an NV 8800GTS should need no more than a 450W or so and
that is erring on the high side. PC P&C PSUs manufacture for several other
companies and have a good reputation and I have used them for many years
because I have had very few issues with them. Like anything else, you will
pay a bit more for quality, but not a lot in the whole scheme of things.
