power supply box

I use a Windows XP, Dimension 2400 and my power supply box keeps burning out.
I now have bought 4 supply boxes in a year to fix my computer. What is cause
this to burn out. I'm not over loading the outlet am I? All that I have
plugged in is the TV and VCR and the things that came with my computer the
printer, speakers, and monitor. My friend say it could be that I turn it off
and on too many time a day. Which I do about maybe 20 time a day.

you turn off the computer 20 times a day? WHY?

at least try standby or hibernation.. LOL!

Give me your computer specs (how many hard disks, how fast CPU etc) and tell
me how many watts the power supply is also tell me if you have a UPS

20 times a day could possibly be the cause. When you power on your computer
it received what is called "inrush current". Doing this 20 times a day would
most definatley be harder on your computer (power supply, along with
everything else in the system) than simply leaving it on. I would suggest
letting the power management take over and drop to standby. Personally I
leave my computer running 24x7. I only restart when needed or when it seems
like it is running a bit slower than it should be. That is just a personal
preferance. If you didnt feel comfortable with that then I would leave it on
after you first turn it on in the morning then turn it off before you head
to bed.

Another thing could be "dirty electricity". If you are not getting a steady
feed of voltage and amps then that would cause the powersupply to work
harder. A battery backup should help to clean that up, but I am not sure if
the dirty electricty would cause teh battery backup to fail prematurely. I
would think that if dirty electricty was the case your TV would have had
problems aswell though.

One other thing, as the other poster mentioned posting your system hardware
specs would help. If I am not mistaken I think that 2400 comes with a 250
watt power supply if you have added anything much to your system after you
bought it that could also be the problem. You might need to jump up to a
300-350 watt.
