power point shows only starts in edit mode

When I save a presentation to file as a .pps it opens in edit mode and not
just full screen. also, when I e-mail that .pps file, outlook Express adds a
..ppt suffix to the .pps and again, it opens only in edit mode.

How can I get only the pesentation to e-mail without having the recipient
see it open in edit mode?

As you can see, I'm a newbie to Power Point.

By default AFAIK, Outlook Express does not add extensions to files. Both
..PPT and .PPS will open in the edit mode when opened in PowerPoint using the
File Open method. Both .PPT and .PPS will open in the Slideshow mode if
opened using the PowerPoint viewer. If you double click the .PPS file it
should open in the Slideshow mode. It all depends on what the recipient has
installed on their system how your presentation will open.

How are you saving as a .pps?

If you do File, Save as and simply append .PPS to the name of the file, Windows
or PPT appends a PPT to the end, and you get it in the end. So to speak.

If that's the case, your file is now named Whatever.PPS.PPT, only Windows is
still hiding the PPT from you so you only see Whatever.PPS .... but Windows
Knows Better. IT sees the hidden PPT at the end of the filename so IT opens the
file in normal rather than Show mode.

Make sense?

Of course not. But it's the squalid truth. ;-)

Anyhow, what you need to do is either:

Choose File, Save As and pick "PowerPoint Show (*.PPS) in the Save As Type box

or (better for your long-term mental health)

Go to any Windows explorer window, choose Tools, Folder Options, View tab and
REMOVE the check next to "Hide extensions .."

I'll leave it to those more confused than me to explain why MS shows you that
silly (*.PPS) extension thing when they do their best to make sure you don't
ever see it. Left hand, introduce yourself to Right hand. You two slap one
another silly. You both deserve it.

Thank you, Steve !! That fixed my dilemma !! I unchecked the "hide file extension" box and it showed that there was indeed a .ppt extension on the .pps i was seeing. Everything works as it should now. WTG !!

Great! Thanks for letting me know. You feel better for having it fixed, I feel better
for having had my screed on the subject.

There's nothign so relaxing as taking the pet peeve out for a nice rant.
