PP 2002 consistently locks up when opening. I have tried performing a
repair.... no change. I have tried running in safe mode ... no change. I
have uninstalled and re-installed office.... no change. Other Office apps
work fine. I have noticed that when I uninstall office, it leaves the files
and registry entries in place.
Suggestions? TIA

How are you starting it?
At what point does it lock up?

The more exactly you can describe it, the better.

I have tried performing a

The program locks up when I launch it either by clicking on the application
icon or when I try to open an existing PP file. I have tried opening is safe
mode (CTLR + App). All that I get is a white screen with a border around it.
Later, I receive the "progam is not responding" message.
At one point, I was able to boot the machine in safe mode and then run PP.
But today, when I tried, it locked up.

Thanks for the link. I have tried slowing and even disabling hardware
acceleration. It did not help. I installed new video drivers.... no change.
When I launch PP, the license screen appears and then a gray screen with the
PowerPoint Title bar appears. That is as far as it goes.
The app log indicates that PP is a "hanging application".
I am wondering if this could be a memory issue???

Just to be sure: do you mean the splash screen? In other words, it's not something
that's asking you to accept the terms of a license, is it?

One other thing I can think of: set the video resolution to something bog standard
like 1024x768 and 24-bit or 32-bit color. If it's already set there, try a different
resolution or color depth. Then start PPT.

Note that each time it hangs, you will want to either:

- Restart the PC or, at the very least
- Press Ctrl+Alt+Del, to to the Task List, processes tab and kill the Powerpnt.exe
process
