I can not get my Dell laptop to wake up from standby or hybernate. Both worked prior to upgrade from Win2000 Professional to XP Professional.
 
Did you set the mouse and keyboard to 'allow' it to wake from standby??

On my Gateway yoiu open the lid then push the power button to resume from standby or hybenate
