power management

Hi

Can anyone suggest why my computer comes out of hibernation if I
accidentally knock my desk when I walk by it? I would prefer it to only come
out of hibernation when I press the ESC key. I've looked in power management
settings but can't anything that might help.

I have windows xp media edition and I use a Logitech cordless keyboard and
mouse.

I would suggest that your PC is set up for wake up on mouse movement.
Knocking the desk moves the pesky rodent enough to wake the PC up. Best
place to look for this is in your BIOS set up.

Because knocking the table jiggles the mouse.
Turn the mouse over on its back when not using it.

Thanks for helping. Can you please remind me which key I hit to get into the
BIOS? I thought it was F1 but that's not working.

Your computer manual should tell you, but you can try F2 or Del. Failing
that, contact the tech support folks that made your computer.

First off, your computer isn't coming out of hibernation. It's coming out of
standby.

To prevent your mouse from waking your computer from standby, do the following.

Go to Control Panel and double click the Mouse icon.
In the Mouse Properties sheet, click on the Hardware tab.
On the Hardware page, hit the Properties button.
This should bring up the Logitech Cordless Mouse Properties sheet.
Click on the Power Management tab.
Remove the check mark from the box next to "Allow this device to bring the
computer out of standby.

Good luck

You are confusing standby with hibernation. When hibernating, all power is
turned off so no keyboard or mouse movement will awaken the computer. You
must use the power on key.
In standby mode a keyboard or mouse movement will wake the computer
depending on how you configure
the mouse and keyboard power options. You can prevent the mouse from waking
the computer.

In which case, something is wrong. I am definitely choosing Hibernate (I
don't like stand by) and the monitor says 'Hibernating' while it is supposed
to be hibernating.

I have double checked my Power Management settings and I don't have standby
selected as an option anywhere. Do you know what might be causing this to
happen?

Under Power Schemes it says System Standy: 'Never' System Hibernate: 'After 3
hrs'. Under Advanced tab I have asked the pc to shut down if I press the
power button and to hibernate if I select the sleep button. Under Hibernate
tab it says 'enable hibernation'. And UPS service stopped.
