Power Management Keys

XP Home SP2.

The PS/2 keyboard that came with my PC case has three power
management keys, "Wake", Sleep" & "Power, situated just below the
Delete, End & Page Down keys, in the empty space just above the
cursor keys.

Pressing any of these 3 keys has the same affect as pressing the
reset button on the case, i.e. the PC immediately shuts down and
then restarts. Accidental operation of these keys has caused a few
problems!

No software was provided with the keyboard, therefore I suspect
that for these 3 keys to operate correctly, some alteration to
power management settings may be required. Can anybody please
point me in the right direction?

TIA.

That sounds to me to be an absolute marvel of poor layout; that's about the
worst spot to put such keys, even if they were working properly. They
should be outside of the physical range of the keys you normally use.

I personally wouldn't bother with finding the drivers that you would need
for that, but instead get another keyboard and trash that one. If you do
want the drivers, look on the manufacturer's site. Otherwise, look in the
BIOS.

Or do what I did: pry the keys off the KB. You'll never accidently
hit one again! :)

I agree. Fortunately, they are much smaller and lower than the
normal keys, so I only hit them now and again!

I don't think there are drivers - there's no sign of them.

Thanks.

I don't think there are any drivers - I can find no mention of
them.

According to Wikipedia....
"The Power key is used both to power on and to power off the
computer. Powering on the computer brings it to ACPI state G0
Working. Powering off the computer brings it to ACPI state G2 Soft
Off.

The Sleep key is used to put the computer into ACPI state G1
Sleeping from ACPI state G0 Working.

The Wake key is used to put the computer back into ACPI state G0
Working from ACPI state G1 Sleeping."

Where are these ACPI G0,G1 & G2 settings????
Or do what I did: pry the keys off the KB. You'll never

I did think of that. But then I'd be left with three holes which
would fill up with fluff! I think I may try pouring 'super glue'
around the buttons, so they remain in place but non-functional.
Either that, or I'll open the keyboard up and "fix" the contacts.

Thanks.
