Power Button not working

My powersupply self-destructed. One of the capacitors fried and de-
soldered itself.
I replaced it with a known good power supply which didn't have the
ATX12V- 4pin connector.
I spliced the old connector into the yellow and black wires to the
power leads for the drives.
The Power LED (amber) and the fans come on, but the Powerswitch does
not work. The machine will not boot.
I shorted the pins on the MoBo for the powerswitch with a screwdriver
- nothing.

Why didn't you purchase the correct PSU rather than splicing what you
thought were the correct wires?
It's likely the motherboard got fried when the PSU committed suicide.

I'm glad I didn't. A new and "correct" PSU ain't no good for a fried
MoBo.
The web is full of horror stories about "the PSU cratering and taking
out he MoBo's" in EMachines.
