No Power to the drives

My powersupply self-destructed. One of the capacitors fried and de-
soldered itself.
I replaced it with a known good supply which didn't have the ATX12V 1
connector. I spliced the old connector in the yellow and black wires
for the power leads to the drives.
The Power LED and the fans come on, but no power to the Powerswitch,
HDD LED and any of the drives (HDD, CD-ROM, Floppy).
Is my splicing at fault or is the MoBo kaputt?

Very bad move on your part, splicing anything on a PSU, period.. Never, never
should there even be a need to do this.. Your computer and all your hardware
may very well be toast, fried, spent, kaputt, lost for ever..
May be time for a new computer, what was the poor mobo's/computers make and
model #..?

I don't think you know what you are talking about, Jaymon.
When I was talking about if my splicing may be at fault, I was
concerned about if "wake-up" power is being provided to the PSU.
The 4-pin power plug I spliced is no more than an back-up/safety/extra
power for the P4+ CPU's.
Also learned that EMachines are notorious for their crappy PSU's to
fail, taking out the crappy MoBo's with them.
Yes, a T1742 (R.I.P.)

Just not worth the risk to ones life or property, when you can get a
replacement PSU.. It was your call, not mine..
Better luck next time, eh..

It's always good to check things out before buying replacements for
things that went bad, even if a bit of rigging is involved.
Trust me, no danger here if you know what you are doing.
Had I bought a new PSU, I had one for sale now. The MoBo went out with
the PSU.
I can buy a barebone sytem for little more than the price of a good
PSU.
Fry's sells a 400W for ~ $ 80. I got a barebone incl. case, MoBo, 3.2
Gig CPU, CPU cooler and a 400W PSU for $ 130.
