power button doesn't always work

Sometimes my computer won't power up. Let me explain;
today my computer is on, running fine. Tonight I'll turn
it off. Tomorrow I'll press the power button to turn my
computer on and nothing happens - like there is no power.
I'll pull the power chord out of the inlet socket, then
plug it in again (cutting all power and turning it on
again), then it will start. My computer, printer, monitor
is plugged into a surge protector. The monitor and printer
always has power but it seems the CPU is not getting any
power. Turning the surge protector on/off gets the same
results. I've changed the plugs in the surge protector but
that doesn't help. Could there something wrong with the
CPU, power scheme, or perhaps the surge protector? Running
XP V2Premier w/ pentium 4. CPU is ~ 1 1/2 yrs old.

Most likely PSU (power supply unit) or motherboard fault. If the CPU was
faulty the machine would at least start the initialisation process. You will
require a technician unless you wish to replace the PSU yourself.

George, can you try a different wall socket for your Printer ? It could
be a Power Supply going
flaky or line voltage is fluctuating.
