Potential Identity loss issue with hidden email addresses in Excel!

H

Hilarious

I received a spreadsheet attachment yesterday and found a mailto:(my
address) embedded in a cell under a text string. It was evident in a
tooltip that appeared when cell was hovered-over. I told the sender
who now says that many of her spreadsheets - used to handle group
memberships - have such hidden addresses.

The sheet I received was a reworking in Excel (not sure which version)
of one of mine that was from a fresh, new OpenOffice spreadsheet I had
emailed earlier. No sign of the embedding in my OO 'sheet, whether
viewed in OO or in Excel 2000. It seems to have crept in on her
machine whilst in Excel, as did the others that now are found in other
s'sheets of hers. This looks an ominous ID issue.

How can these hidden details be removed? Ordinary Edit-Search doesn't
find them.
What terms (or even other tools) would she use to search for these
pests, either in My Docs
or on opening each sheet?

This is a reworking of yesterday's post. I KNOW there are folk here
who can answer this problem!!

Hi,

Just a guess, they are probably Smart Tags. You can check it out by
choosing Tools, AutoCorrect Options, Smart Tags...

If you are using Excel 2007 I would also take a look at the following:
choose Office Button, Prepare, Inspect Document. You will see what the
command is intended to identify and allow you to remove.
