Posting to Microsoft Communities using Vista Mail

Lee Thacker

Hi folks

If I attempt to post a message to one of the Microsoft communities when I am
not signed in to my Passport account I get the following message pop up

"Your post will not have community's features unless you are singed in to
Microsoft communities. Wold you like to sign in.

If you click YES nothing happens the dialogue is just displayed again.

Should this not give a prompt to log in?

You can go to Tools > Accounts > select the Microsoft Communities >
Properties > Windows Live ID > Then enter your user name and password.
Then you should be able to hit YES and have it log you in.

It should then allow you to log in, but it does not. This is a bug and has
been pointed out to the development team. When it will be fixed, if ever,
is unknown at this time. It's a real PITA and encourages users to never use
the Communities features.

Here's the error I got after trying to send a response to here from Vista
Mail, via a returned mail msg..

----- The following addresses had permanent fatal errors -----

(reason: 550 Host unknown)

----- Transcript of session follows -----

That is because you are attempting to send a email message, rather than a
newsgroup reply. Make sure you only click on the "Reply Group" and not on
the "Reply All" button on the Toolbar since the email addresses shown are
all bogus and created only as a convenience for those who are attempting to
post anonymously via the web.

Its a little bit hit and miss. I think they may be working on it.

If you cannot sign on at all and have no logon box when trying to, then you
have to close WinMail and check running processes and make sure WinMail.exe
is not listed. Some applications use it and leave it open and that prevents
the ability to log on. After terminating the process then reopen WinMail
and you should be able to log on.

The other issue is when you log on and it tells you in a message box that it
cannot find "About:blank". When that happens hit OK and then click on the X
in the upper right hand corner of the log on box to close it. Then you are
logged on.

Other times (more recently) you don't get the error logging on.

I cannot post a NEW message to the community boards. When I select NEW,
Question, then nothing happens. I can only make a REPLY, which is why I had
to put this here.

Does anyone have a clue for me?

I'm actually trying to ask about why the Vista version of Media Player
cannot play a loop correctly - they all play perfectly in XP, 98SE, 2000, etc.
