When I boot up my computer, I dont hear the standard POST
beep in the begining few moments of startup. Although
despite this, the comp gets passed the memory count,
detecting my IDE drives, and passed the PCI device
listing. I checked in the bios to see if my POST check was
being shortened to save time, but its not. I dont think
its my system speaker because i hear various sounds the
system speaker produced, such as when you hold a key down
for too long during bootup. Can anyone help me with this
issue? Thank alot.

ps. Is there a way to test your system speaker, other than
POST?

I haven't heard this "beep" in forever as it is different for every
computer and generally is on older computers. What can happen is the
internal speaker that makes this beep has gotten disconnected, blown out
(unlikely), or something is wrong with it. If this is a new computer to
you, it may never beep. Check inside your computer and see if the
system speaker has been disconnected.

One way to test the speaker is to pull out your memory and boot up the
computer. This will make it give you error beeps ;)

I can't say it is with all motherboards but, with most modern ones that I
have had dealings with, a post beep, or series of beeps is an indication of
a problem. With the PCC that I just replaced, a beep meant a memory problem.
In the case of the one I have now, it means the video card is probably not
seated or malfunctioning in some way. Check the web-site of your motherboard
to determine the significance of system beeps.

Actually, most have different beeps for different messages. Like no CPU
installed is fast repeated beeps. No memory is three quick beeps, a
pause, then the beeps again, and so on. It is all dependent on the
motherboard, but if the computer works fine and you don't notice
anything wrong with it, don't worry about it ;)

Why are you telling me all this? I think I just said, about, the same thing
in my post. The exception being, it varies from one board to another. You
can't say what the beeps mean unless you know what board it is.
