Possible Virus

I've been having a problem with my computer, the processes are all
running normally, but most of the time I can't get text to show up on
my screen, and even the windows buttons (eg any window that has an OK
button) are blank of text. Error checking shows system is OK, and
defrag shows 0% fragmentation. System is REALLY slow, and I keep
getting a "Out of Memory" error, even though my virtual memory is set
to 750 minimum. Running XP home edition. Will reply latter with a
Hijackthis report.

Go through these cleaning steps to see or get a clear opinion on how
clean your machine is:
= Click Start >> Control Panel>>Network and Internet Connections >> Double
click Internet Options.
On the IE properties windows you will see these Tabs:
General | Security | Privacy | Content | Connections | Programs |
Advanced.
Under General Tab clear your History, Internet Files and Cookies.
Then click on Advanced tab and scroll down to under the Browsing Option:
[&] Browsing
[ ] Enable Third-Party browser extensions (Req Rest) uncheck this box.
[ ] Disable script Debugging (internet Explorer) <= check this box
[ ] Disable Script Debugging (Other) <= check this box

Then click on Programs Tab and click Manage Add-Ons and Disable all none
Verified Add-Ons (You should Renable them later one-by-one and see the
culprit and update it or remove it.

Please don't post here with a Hijack this report. There are plenty of
locations specifically for those reports.

I think you have malware. Even so, these might help with the missing text:

Several dialog boxes are blank
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/831430

Transparent drop-down Menu and disappearing menu text
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/transmenu.htm

?

=?iso-8859-1?Q?_db_=B4=AF`=B7.._=3E=3C=29=29=29=BA

set your vm to a
min/initial size of 2
and
max of (1.5) x (the size of
your physical ram memory).

then reboot.
