first the error..
the application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\SAMSERV.DLL is not a valid
windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette.

Unable to get into any part of Windows. First you get the Windows loading
screen, then this error comes up. Doesnt matter if you attempt safe mode,
command prompt, last know config, or normal modes, error comes up and halts
the computer.

Attempt to use the recovery console fails as it asks for a password, but all
passwords ever put on unit come up incorrect.

Attempt to extract the password comes up with corrupted file error.

The primary issue is that there are files that the owner of the computer did
not save to disc, and these are the only photos they have of a family member
who passed away earlier this year.

Pulling the drive and putting it into a drive enclosure allows me to access
all but the password protected Documents file. (just gives error "access
denied"). Unable to copy the documents folder to a disc or another hard
drive.

Anyone have any suggestions on possibly accessing these files?

Thanks to one and all who respond!!

error has somnething to do with Novell shareware.

If you get access denied try this..

In XP Home you have to boot in safe mode to see the security tab. In XP Pro
you have to disable simple file sharing.
