Possible to Install SP2 without Uninstall?

Hi

I have an older machine with a 2GB HDD that, once Ive installed Windows XP,
does not have sufficient space to store the Uninstall Folders and do the
upgrade. Is there a way to disable the backup that is automatically
attempted by the upgrade to SP2.

The error Im getting is dusing the install:

"You do not have enough free disk space on C: to archive the uninstall
files. To install Service Pack 2 with backup files for uninstall, an
additional 160MB is required"

2.0 Gigabytes ? and it has XP running on it.
The best procedure to install SP2 in that case would be the following

1. Use another PC with a CD-Burner.
2. Take the 267 Megabyte Network installer package and extract it.
This step avoids the extraction to your space limited disk
3. Burn that extracted folder to a CD-R
4. Put the disk into your space limited PC.
5. Open a Command Prompt
6. Navigate to the CD & sub-folder Update
7. Invoke Update.Exe with the qualifier /n ( No backup) you might
also want to use the /Quiet qualifier to speed progress alone.

I've left the extraction command for the Service Pack module out,
Google for Slipstream SP2 and you'll find numerous sites that have
step by step instructions.

I must also give the suggestion to upgrade your hard drive. This system is
very compromised as to the level it can be updated. It would be perfectly
acceptable for a system that is not connected to the internet and is only
used for storage and backup. Anything else is a futile endeavor. Hard
drives are very cheap, and if you truly can't afford to replace the hard
drive, contact me by email, I have several 10 gig hard drives I would donate
to you for the price of the shipping. But for a few dollars more you
could get a new 100 + gig hard drive and use BootIT NG to clone the old
drive to the new one.
Actually, for a little more than the cost of a hard drive upgrade, you could
replace the entire system. Any system that came with a 2 gig hard drive is
woefully inadequate for anything related to XP.

What can be stored and backed up on a 2gb XP volume? XP needs the
total 2gb just to breathe.

Don't pull any punches. The fact is, the OP should never have
installed XP on a 2 gb partition in the first place. I advise
everyone to install XP on a 10gb partition at the very least. An 80gb
system partition is better.

I just bought an 80GB Maxtor HD, 7200 RPM, 8MB cache, Ultra ATA 133
for 49.99 from Fry's in the LA area. If you're not close, I'm sure
you can find a good deal in your area or on line.

I've had XP on my 20GB Maxtor for a year now and it barely gets by,
so you're really spinning you're wheels with the 2GB HD. (no offense intended)
