POSSIBLE HIJACK HOST

I forgot to mention that everytime you reboot, Spysweeper will reload its
entries into your hosts file as long as you have the common ads sites shield
on. And eveytime it reloads, Windows Defender will alert you that your hosts
file has been changed because it does not know that it is Spysweeper doing
it. If you want to keep Spysweepers ads shield on, you need to tell Defender
to "allow" it.

I just checked out the HOSTS file again and they are all #SpySweeperCASS, so
it looks like Spy Sweeper is responsible for so many. Do I just leave them in
there?

Tell Windows Defender to allow them. Look in your blocked items and in your
history page in Defender and make the change to allow - if you want to keep
them. The choice is yours.

I would suggest downloading Hoster from Funky Toad and using it to get a
better grasp on what's in there.
OR go to Spysweeper Hosts File shield and check "edit hosts file." It will
show you everything in there also.

Hi

If she wants to use WD she must start over...........

Otherwise uninstall WD and keep Spysweeper.

If it`s a paid Spysweeper I cannot see any reason
to run 2 AS with RTP protection.

Disable RTP for WD or Spysweeper if she wants to keep them both
and use it for on demand scans.

Would it be safe for me to remove all of the SpySweeperCASS items in the
HOSTS file, then?
Or will they just return next time I boot up?

Then I should cut and paste what madpat suggests?

I checked my Edit Host Files in SpySweeper, and it looks like something
tries to show up but dosn't. It is blank. (Kind of acts like a pop up getting
zonked)

Or just leave everything as is and be safe and just remove the item from WD
everytime?

I know I am probably not putting my questions in the right contxt, but hope
you all know what I am trying to say. I would rather be safe than sorry!!!

It probably does not show up because you have Windows Defender blocking it.
Spysweepers common ads sites shield will put it back every time you block it.
Either unckeck the box in Spysweeper next to "common ads sites shield" to
remove the hosts file items. or tell Defender to "allow" it every time it
asks - as long as you are sure that it is being done by Spysweeper.

Well, I cleared the Client Hosts in SS and eveerything was gone when I opened
HOSTS, So, thought I would check out hosts.msn. It has the same
SpySweeperCASS files in it. I used to have MSN Dial Up and I don't know if I
even need the hosts.msn file anymore. What do you think?

I think you need to study carefully the two articles from dslreports.com in
my previous post.
