possible browser hijack?

Hey all,
I'm using IE 6.0, (Win2000 pro) my homepage = about:blank, when I open
IE, it comes right up.

when I type in my first URL and hit ENTER, IE takes easily 20-30
seconds, sometimes longer, to find the first website. Every page after
that loads quickly (about 1 or 2 seconds), even a totally different
website.

Anyone else experience this "primary lag"?

I've cleared all temp internet files, cookies, and history so nothing
is cached. No difference.

I've dumped all downloaded program files (ActiveX, Shockwave, etc). No
difference.

I've dumped all Browser Help Objects (BHO's). No difference.

I don't detect any spyware and I frequently run Spybot, Ad-aware,
Hijack This, CWShredder, and BHODemon. No difference.

I have no applications (ADD/Remove programs) that are add-ins or
plug-ins or something... "for Internet Explorer".

I've forced switched my DNS server addresses in my IP settings between
a hard IP address and "obtain... automatically". No difference.

I have McAffee virus scan with subscription updates. No viruses
detected.

I can only assume I have some kind of bot or some kind of surfing
analyzer running in memory but I can't detect it. Any help here is
greatly appreciated.

thanks,
JM
