possible bad memory card?

one of my computers, a laptop, has been severely crashing
for the last three weeks. it occurs while performing
general computing tasks (ms update, ms word etc.). when it
crashes, it crashes to blue screen and says 'if the pc
continues to crash, then uninstall any newly installed
hardware or software' it also lists errors at what appears
to be memory addresses. there is no new hardware or
software, and i am at a loss for what might have caused
this other than possibly a bad memory card. any one got
any further suggestions?
is there anyway to test the memory for errors to pnpoint
the problem/rule this out?
thanks in advance for your help.
