PORTS

Hi I'm wondering if Microsoft or other offers a end user
program which can close ports on request. Or if there is
someway to do this within the WindowsXP OS framework. I
have been able to disable some services related to ports
although I would like to preempt the services not allowing
specific ports to be used for any reason. Perhaps only
keeping esential ports usuable such as port 80 or whatever
the case may be. I am also wondering why MS doesn't
include this in their os. I am aware of the built in
firewall in XP pro, I am wondering if there are any valid
reason on not making the computer secure unless otherwise
required by default.

Is this done intentionally to create security issues
trojans etc. Although I would geuss people would just find
ways around it.

For instance a suggestion to allow a security wizard on
start up or instalation which addresses known security
issues such as DCOM or NETbios.

Although I understand how it could be seen as another
product including a security tips .doc or otherwise
addressing all major security issues and even building a
wizard around it would be wonderful. Yes I know I should
get started.....

Ok to reask the original question, is there something that
can plug ports available or is this somehow posible as
part of the os?

Thankyou for reading

Use a firewall. Asking how to close ports is not the right way to go. Block
them instead with a firewall.
