ports to open of firewall with service pack 2 installed

Joe

Greetings Everyone,
I have a peer to peer topology with all xp pro pcs. They
are sharing their local folders, printers and other
resources between machines. When SP 2 was installed it
enabled the firewall and closed certain ports preventing
the machines from accessing each others local resources.
What ports do I need to open and allow in traffice,
inorder for them to share their folders, printers etc.
Many thanks in advance.

I assume your network is protected by a hardware firewall, so just turn the
xp firewall off and don't worry about it.

Joe,

Go to the "windows firewall" in control panel. select the "exceptions" tab
at the top. Place a checkmark next to "File and Printer Sharing".

Simply set the Security Center's Exceptions list to allow file and
print sharing. No need to enable specific ports for this.

Life would be boring if we didn't get a little nuts sometimes. But I don't
see what that has to do with turning the xp firewall off if your already
protected by a hardware firewall. It's a safe thing to do. Although assuming
is sometimes not a safe thing to do - ;o)
