A friend of mine says that she recently downloaded a critical MS update
and now can only access certain (limited) websites, McAfee a/v won't
run, and the system in general is very sluggish. I suggested that she
do an on-line virus scan and download and run Ad-Aware.
Unfortunately, she says she can't access any of the on-line a/v sites or
lavasoft.
The only other thing I can think of to do remotely is to ask her to
check for a bad hosts file. If that doesn't work, I'll have to visit
and see if I can figure out anything while actually at her PC. Because
these syptoms sould like there is a virus and/or adware issue (or maybe
multiple issues), I'd like to bring some utilities with me. I can
download Ad-Aware and its current reference file and burn them on to a
CD. Any suggestions for a non-bloated a/v utility that I can likewise
d/l and burn? Any suggestions for other utilities I should bring along?
