popups ad nauseum

I've run spybot, antispy from yahoo toolbar, and several other on line
scans and I'm still getting ads popping up. spybot referred to some
update programs in c:\documents and settings\owner\local settings\temp.
I deleted the files referred to by spybot, but their are several other
folders and files in the temp folder. Are these needed for anything or
can all the temp files be safely deleted? I suspect they might have
something to do with loading the adware. BTW, the scans remove junk,
but after reboot, they're back.

If the stuff comes back after reboot, you need to try booting in safe mode.
Hit F8 repeatedly while the machine is booting. You should get the screen
that allows safe mode. Choose that. Then run you anti-adware software (and
any anti-virus program you might have just to be safe). You can then reboot
normally.

This should make sure the junk is removed permanently unless you've got a
virus that hasn't been caught.

"Of all the enemies to public liberty war is, perhaps, the most to be
dreaded because it comprises and develops the germ of every other. War is
the parent of armies; from these proceed debts and taxes...known instruments
for bringing the many under the domination of the few. . . No nation could
preserve its freedom in the midst of continual warfare."

Delete *all* Temporary Internet Files...

1) Start | Run | Type: inetcpl.cpl | OK
Or right click the Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop.
Or: Start | Settings | Control Panel | Internet Options.
Best to do this with all instances of Internet Explorer closed.
Especially
if there are a large number of files.
2) On the General Tab, in the middle of the screen, click on Delete
Files
3) Check the box Delete all offline content {This cleans >>
C:\Documents
and Settings\YourNameHere\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files AND
C:\Documents and Settings\YourNameHere\Local Settings\Temporary Internet
Files\Content.IE5 and \Content.MSO (Created by an MS Office program)
4) Click on OK and wait for the hourglass icon to stop after it deletes
the
temporary internet files
