How do I stop the popup from appearing when I click on start, that says
there are too many items to be shown?

Mike,

This is a puzzling question. In 2000 you could just say scroll the programs
list, but I am not sure in XP if this can be set. Maybe try this to see if
it works:

Right-click the TASKBAR & choose PROPERTIES from the context menu
Click the ADVANCED tab
Where the list of checkboxes under START MENU SETTINGS, check the entry that
says SCROLL THE PROGRAMS MENU
Click APPLY then click OK

Maybe, just maybe it will sort the problem out, but this is really a Windows
2000 idea.

Also, are you using the Windows XP Start menu or the classic menu?

Too many items in the start menu (XP Start Menu only).

Right click the Start button | Properties | Start Menu tab | Customize
button | General tab | Reduce the number for Number of programs on Start
menu

Number of programs on Start menu
[[Specifies the maximum number of programs to display in the most frequently
used programs list on the Start menu. You can increase or decrease the
number. ]]
