I cannot manage to connect my windows mail on my new computer (vista) and I
get : socket error 11001, 0x800CCC0D after typing POP3 and SMTP in the in
and out server box. What is wrong ?

You need to enter the correct server names...
your email account provider should have a webpage with the correct names &
settings.
 
I'm having the same problem, sometimes I can send things other times I get
that error message. I'm new to the whole laptop thing so I need kindergarten
directions. Where exactly do I find the server info?

Right-click on your error message, copy, then paste it into a reply here.
Is Wanadoo.fr your mail service provider?
 
My email address is a work address and I can do everyhting just fine at the
office. Here at home I have the "wireless" thing going on and it's through
comcast. Does that make sense?
 
The host 'SMTP' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the
server name correctly.
Subject 'Ickes', Account: 'work', Server: 'SMTP', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25,
Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D
 
Do this:
1. In Windows Mail go to Tools, Accounts, select that work account,
click Properties, Servers. Change the name of the outgoing (SMTP)
server to smtp.comcast.com. Do not change the incoming server. Also,
make sure that the "My server requires authentication" option is checked.
Click the adjacent "Settings" button. Select "Log on using"
then enter your Comcast username and password. Click OK.

2. Go to the Advanced tab and change the port number for the
outgoing (SMTP) server from 25 to 587, and checkmark the associated
SSL option. Again, do not change any receiving parameters.
Click OK. Try sending.
 
Oops, disregard the part "checkmark the associated SSL option".
Comcast does not use SSL.

I am registered with wanadoo/orange.
I come back with the error msg cc SMTP
 
error msg cc SMTP is :

"SMTP" is not a valid name for a mail server.
Change the outgoing (SMTP) server name to smtp.wanadoo.fr.
