POP3 Server Problems with Insight/Road Runner

kkimmet

Hi my POP3 has been working fine for a couple of years and now with Vista, it
stopped working last night. This is the message I get. Any advise or help?

The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the
"I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining
the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.

The rejected e-mail address was xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx. Subject '', Account: ,
Server: 'smtp-server.insight.rr.com', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '550
Invalid recipient: <[email protected]>', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No,
Server Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC79

There may no longer be an account with that email address.

Does your connection to the outgoing mail server now cross from one
internet provider's equipment to another's? If so, such connections to
port 25 are often blocked to cause trouble for spammers.

Also, you may want to check if the Road Runner setup instructions
have changed:

You ask your email provider, who is probably also your internet
provider, for instructions for setting up to use their email servers.
These instructions will include the names of the servers. If they
haven't written instructions yet for Windows Mail, you use their
instructions for Outlook Express, as long as they don't call for
using the HTTP protocol. The instructions are probably
somewhere on their web site. Or, you could tell us who your
email provider is and see if anyone here already know where to
find their instructions.

If you want to use your Yahoo account, you either have to pay
extra or install YPOPs:

I have the exact error message as kkimmet & it started minutes after
Time-Warner guys were here to hook up our phone to them. We had roadrunner
for 2 weeks before & everything was OK then. I contacted RR & they have not
got back to me yet & I have my son-in-law working on it also. He just waited
1 hour on hold with RR & got up to #12 from 56+ calls. I will post when we
correct this problem. It works through my main account from RR @
(e-mail address removed) (I can receive), but under my 2 sub-accounts for my wife &
I it shows this error message everytime.

Strange. I tested that email address, and it was successful:

This may be a server problem, not fixable from your end.
Do you get the same error message regardless of the recipient?

You might try
mail.roadrunner.com
for both the POP & SMTP servers

or
pop-server.roadrunner.com
smtp-server.roadrunner.com

just to see if they work.. I'm a former Adelphia customer, and this is our
Roadrunner servers.

It sounds like a RoadRunner problem to me. Perhaps the sub-accounts
are not properly set up on the server.

I got this corrected by re-installing my info on my sub-accounts & now can
receive/send e-mails. The address was not recognized. I deleted my info with
Roadrunner & re-entered all new info; the problems were in the sub-accounts
with error message...server response '550 invalid recipient....error number
0x800ccc79.
