pop3 mail.account settings dissapear?

Hello, i have a client using Outlook 2003 Small Business Edition with all the
service packs & updates for Office & XP.

I backed up is email account from his old Outlook Express machine, and then
imported it into Outlook Express on the new machine, then i opened Outlook
2003 and updated it with the settings from Outlook Express.

This seemed to be working fine for a few hours, he could send/recieve his
emails and was happy, until i left the building, and his account failed.

the error message was the typical 'username' 'password' fill in box which
had a few ***** asterisks in there.

BUT after looking closer at the Tools > Accounts > View/Edit option, i
noticed a very strange thing.
The POP3 settings {mail.domain.com} had jumped from the pop3 box. to the
'username box'. So now my clients settings looked like this.
example:

username:bob1234/mail.domain.com
password:******
pop3:localhost
smtp:mail.domain.com

To my suprise of course!, But even when i copy and paste the pop3 settings
back they only last for about an hour before jumping back, thus error message
appears and he cannet send/recieve emails.

Any knowladge would be of help to me, as i have tried deleting and readding
the account.

Why are you surprised? Your antivirus program is doing that and it has been
mentioned in these newsgroups time and time again. A simple five second
Google Groups search would have found the prior postings.

no it's not the antivirus program !! Google search was my 1st choice !! and
no one on these groups has actually fixed the problem !!

to all those people with the same problem, i have a feeling that it occours
when you 'upgrade' to Office 2003, rather than a 'clean' install. I will be
checking the fix this weekend.

OutlookMVP's welcome, brian your a muppet.

In the vast majority of cases, it IS the AV program. Obviously you didn't
see the thousands of reports of this.

You have a "feeling"? You should be using reason instead of emotion when
dealing with computers.
