pop-ups

I downloaded (carelessly I might add)a screensaver from a
site, and i suspect there was more than a screensaver on
the file. Ever since then (I deleted it by the way) I've
been getting pop-ups a lot more than usual, even on sites
that were po-up free (google, this site) they all seem to
be the same few, there's one from singleme.com, there's
one asking me which emoticon is my favourite, and they
never seem to go away. Every single time I refresh or
click a new link, they come back. Please help me out
here. I've tried deleting the screensaver file, searching
pop-up or viruses on my computer, I've enabled to see
hidden files, I've looked through all the files that were
created, accessed or modified since the date I downloaded
it. But still everytime I startup Internet Explorer, I
get these damn pop-ups. I've even tried reinstalling
Internet Explorer suspecting that the file is attached
onto one of the Internet Explorer .exe files, so
everytime I start it up, it starts up. Please help me
out, I am seriously annoyed...
