Pop-ups

Is it my imagination, but it seems as if almost EVERY TIME I start
Internet Explorer 6 a pop-up appears. (I have a pop-up stopper and
it's working well. I just don't want to run it all of the time because
I want to conserve Window's resources.)

Is there anything that can be done, or do I have to get another
browser if I want to avoid most pop-ups? If the latter, any
suggestions?

i would install a program that searches for spy ware or
something similiar. it sounds like thier is a .exe
program running that requests a pop up. I had one that
made my search page the same regardless of what i changed
in registry or did in my tools/internet options. i used a
program called ad aware and it found a .exe file that i
had to uninstall..now it works fine.
