pop-ups

Question: How do I eliminate pop-ups when I on the
internet using Windows XP? I get dozens of pop-ups
advertizing programs to eliminate pop-ups. Do I have to
buy a propgram to eliminate a feature built into Windows
XP?

Ironic, isn't it?

Do a search for popup killers/stoppers. There are several free/shareware
programs that can help, just be aware that some websites have non-ad
uses for popup windows and any popup killer you install may defeat them
as well. For example, some web-based email sites use popups for command
confirmations or getting an address book listing. I use PopupKiller,
which can be manually disabled for these purposes but the author no
longer supports it, it also does not eliminate all of them but does the
majority of them. Still, it's free.

I use one called AD-aware and it does a good job. You
get those when you download from imesh, kazaa, morpheus,
etc. Several stoppers, are worse than the popups, as
they question everything you try to open. Have no
complaints with Adaware. If running XP, and you just
have to open imesh or kazaa, set a Restore point before
downloading, get your files and install, then go to
restore and set computer back to kill all the garbage
they put on your hard drive. They are really bad.
