Pop Up windows close automatically and close all ie browser window

Hey

I've recently got a new pc and updated my XP to service pack 2 as I was told
to do. However since then I have not been able to click on a hyperlink which
opens a new window without all my explorer browser windows closing down and
the error reporting message being displayed.

Please help it's driving me mad and is forcing me to use firefox which I
don't really like.

Someone I know said that theres was working fine but they had installed sp2
from one of the free sp2 cds that Microsoft provided. Is it possible for me
to re-install sp2 from the cd now or am I stuck with how it is?
