Hi,
For the past week and a half I've been experiencing major
problems trying to access certain sites, including my
Hotmail (secondary) e-mail account, through
ninemsn.com.au. Instead of the log-in page appearing, I
get transported to a lycos search page, and then get hit
with multiple pop-up ads - it all began immediately after
my sons acessed a web-site offering cheat codes for
GameBoys - since then I've been plagued by the continuous
pop-up advertising, and many of the sites I'd had no
difficulty accessing before the change no longer seem to
want me, or don't allow me to download files as I'd done
previously!
Fortunately my work web-based work e-mail account isn't
affected, but all my personal mail goes to the hotmail
account, and it's beginning to drive me crazy.
Can anyone help me, or at least point me in the direction
of someone who can?
Thanks
Ian

first use a browser that won't be hijacked like
mozilla.org 'firefox' .
and to remove spyware files, download spybot from
safer-networking.org and update and scan on easy and
remove the found items. lycos is a piece of scum ware that
doesn't like to ask install permission. also in internet
explorer in tools,options,advanced,uncheck both 'install
on demand',apply.
and in add/remove programs, see if there is an uninstall
for lycos before running spybot.

First eliminate any scumware.
See
Dealing with Unwanted Malware, Parasites, Toolbars and Search Engines
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated with the program's update function
before every use, even when just downloaded. There's also a lot more to do
than just those two programs. CWShredder is also available here:

**Post your HijackThis log to
http://forums.spywareinfo.com/ or the Spyware forum at
http://forum.aumha.org/ for expert analysis, not here.**
Alternative download pages for Ad-Aware, Spybot, HijackThis and CWShredder
may be found on this page:

If nothing there helps, please post back to this thread.
