Pop Up Ads

My desktop computer at home is bombarded with pop up
ads. Particularly when I visit Yahoo. However, when I
use my laptop sharing the same broadband connection
through a wireless connection, I get no pop ups. The
computers have the same settings for internet security.
Any idea why the ads hit the desktop and not the laptop
and does anyone have any suggestions on how to stop?

You can filter ads with a HOSTS file.

Plain vanilla popups can be stopped with a freeware popup stopper.

More serious popups that occur when "offline" - not connected to the Net
can be a serious threat.
