Poor quality video capture

I've got a Panasonic NV-GS120 Mini-Dv camcorder.
When I capture my footage into WMM it looks like it's strobing - missing
frames.
I have tried capturing at different qualities (e.g. Hi quality video large &
High quality video small) but it seems to make little difference to the
strobing.
I am capturing it via USB 2.0 & have read on other threads that USB maybe
the cause of this.
Firstly is there anyway I can fix this problem without purchasing Firewire,
perhaps in the WMM settings?
Secondly if there isnt any other way of fixing this problem other than
purchasing Firewire, can I be certain that I wont have this problem once I
have installed Firewire?
Thanks,

Remember that what you see in the preview window is not what the final
result of your capture will be. The preview window is a low quality
rendering of the final video. Play the captured movie in your Media Player
to see what it really looks like.

Very likely yes. USB and WMM do not always get along and firewire is faster.
This is why we all recommend firewire.

Not really. The only other thing to suggest other than switching to firewire
is easiest to do by sending you to one of Graham's pages:

There are never any guarantees, especially with computers, but it most
likely will and even if it doesn't the card and cable are inexpensive and
the fact remains that it is the better alternative to video capturing.

Hi,
I have GS12 as well, but when I connect to WMM it doesn't recognize the
camcorder. I can see the camcorder in the Device manager, Ports-> listed as
pansonic - USBtoserial device...so what's the issue here? is USB only for
images and firewire for video? I have USB 2.0 ports on the PC...it's DELL
610 laptop (new ones)...

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Jatin
