Poor Performance

I am running windows 2000 pro. on a celeron 1.2 with 768
mb of ram. And am having really bad performance issues
when I open task manager my CPU useage will be at 100%
most of the time but my mermory is hardly even used. Is
there any advanced configuration I can do to maximize my
pc's performance

Try a virus scan,

Had something similar, on a friends machine, and a virus, Cant rmemeber what
was launching multiple versions of a fake prog/service that was causing the
CPU usage to go to 100%. The process it was launching was scvh0st, very
similar to a correct process scvhost.

Or you have just got a large number of programs and services auto running at
startup.

How many progs/process show as running when you bring up task manager
(Ctrl-Alt-Del)?

OR download free prog that searches for Startup programs IE Code Stuff
