when trying to play a CD (RealOne Player) while i'm using Explorer, i get on
and off sound. the CD is stilll playing (the play bar in RealOne is still
moving) but there's no sound. then it will come on again and play for abit,
then no sound. any clues? thanks, dan

check your ram/mem... it sounds like you might be pushing
your computer a little harder than it should be, only the
isnt a greatly strenous task...
a prog i use to keep my memory in check is memturbo...
its smal, and works quite well

that can't be it .. it's a new computer with 512 megs of RAM

I agree also with the previous answer. Your computer is
bottle necking. make sure you have the latetest sound card
drivers.

It could be a loose connection somewhere. Maybe the cable
that runs from the sound card to the CDROM drive. Does it
happen only when playing CD's or any sounds???

By default WinXP plays CDs digitally over the IDE bus.
You need to configure to use the analog connection, or SPDIF.if you
can.

ok .. can you tell me how? thanks, dan

Go to the Device manager (system properties, control panel or
right-click my computer), expand the removable drives, right-click
select properties on your CD drive, select the Properties tab, and
uncheck the Digital box in the middle somewhere.
