'Policies' and 'Scripts' Folders Disappear

Paul

Hi

My searching has found others who have this problem but not a solution!

The problem is, in the only DC in our organisation, the
c:\winnt\SYSVOL\sysvol\mydomain\Policies and
c:\winnt\SYSVOL\sysvol\mydomain\Scripts folders disappear. This seems
random but MAY be associated with a reboot.

Even more worrying is the fact that setting Audit 'on' for these folders
shows no events which could explain the vanishing act.

I restored from backup the first few times this happens but now I'm keeping
a copy of these folders on disk for instant replacement.

Can anyone help me identify and remedy the root cause here?

TIA

Paul

Proir to SP4, it is possible that under some conditions, a user could delete
them.

Many thanks Jerold.

I should have said - we are up to SP4. Also there is no audit log record
showing deletion of the folders.

In case it has any relevance, there is one Policy in effect which is to
'allow interactive logon' to Group 'Everyone'.

Thanks

Paul

Hello Paul,

Thank you for your post!

If you have a backup of the system state, then you can restore the SYSVOL.
During the restore make sure you enable "When restoring replicated data
sets, mark the restored data as the primary data for all replicas" (Click
the Advance button on the restore wizard) this option will maintain the
SYSVOL, and mark it authoritative. Otherwise the server will try to source
from a upstream partner moving the contents of the SYSVOL to the
"NtFrs_PreExisting___See_EventLog" folder.
