Poledit

I work in a industry that requires a very high level of
security be placed on specific users, and admin rights to
us administrators. We used poledit in the environments
that we are still NT4, and have a policy that works on
2000 Professional. My problem is that I can't get the
same policy to work on XP Professional. We used poledit
because the only thing these users can do is run one of
five pieces of software, they can't do anything else.
Not even changing wallpaper. Is there a way that I can
use poledit or maybe secedit to accomplish this?

I don't have any experience with poledit on XP and suggest you post in the
XP security administration newsgroup. However I want to point out that XP
Pro offers Software Restriction Policies that are very powerful and use
hash/path/certificate rules to restrict installing and running of software.
Of course it is best deployed in a domain, but can be configured at machine
level via Local Security Policy [gpedit.msc] as can many other
ettings. --- Steve
