Pocket PC Phone Edition - which OS runs CF? (SX66)

Hilton

Hi,

For Pocket PC Phone Editions: Am I correct in saying that Mobile 2003 does
not run the CF, but Mobile 2003 Second Edition does? A friend of mine is
looking to buy the SX66 running Mobile 2003 SE.

I assume Mobile 2003 SE on an SX66 can do landscape etc too? Silly question
I know, but it is an expensive device.

Thanks,

Hilton

No. Any PPC device from 2003 on (and, if I remember right, from 2000, on,
in fact), will run .NET CF 1.0.

Hilton,

All versions of PocketPC 2003 and above support Compact Framework version 2.
All older versions of PocketPC support Compact Framework version 1. The
confusing exception is Smartphone 2003, which only supports Compact
Framework version 1.

The 2003 SE devices are quite nice and can support landscape.

Windows Mobile 2003 Phone Edition can run both NETCF V1 and NETCF V2.
However, installation of post Beta 2 NETCF V2 CAB might fail on some early
PPC 2003 devices due to this issue:

If SX66 is one affected, that can be only fixed by ROM upgrade.

Best regards,

Ilya

Paul, Ginny, Ilya, Tim,

Thanks for your replies. I was almost sure hearing that earlier versions of
the Phone Edition OS (e.g. PPC 2002) couldn't run the CF - this always
confused me; i.e why not? I'm so convinced I've been searching the web to
try find something about it. But nothing. I guess I was mistaken.

Thanks to everyone for also pointing out the minor issues that exist(ed).

Hilton,

The Smartphone 2002 doesn't support any version of the Compact Framwork.
Maybe that is what you were remembering.
