pls help ...with microsoft mail

Can someone help me I am trying to sign up on my new sony laptop (vista) for
the mail...i keep
getting a server error...here is what it says..

The host 'SMTP' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the
server name correctly.

Sure. The problem is that there isn't a server named SMTP, or POP3.
Since you've given the name of a non-existent server, you get a message
saying that the server can't be found (since it doesn't exist).

Windows mail is a mail client, it isn't a mail server. If you have an email
address, the people who provide it are who you ask for directions. The
directions will be on their support pages.

If you don't have an email account anywhere, you have to get one before you
can use Windows Mail. Following the directions from the email supplier for
configuring Windows Mail, or Outlook Express, which is almost exactly the
same.
