PLS HELP! Excel object in Word Problem

I need to e-mail a file that refers to Excel data. In my Word file, I have
embedded the Excel file as an Excel object that displays as icon. (No link
to original file.)

I then copy data from the embedded Excel object and paste it with a link in
the Word file. This way, I can e-mail it and everything stays in one file.

However, when I try to update the data in the Excel object, it only updates
the linked Word tables for a short time. As soon as I close the embedded
Excel object, the link seems to disappear and I get an error message when I
try to update links.

Any idea or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!

Hi =?Utf-8?B?ZGVl?=,
I need to e-mail a file that refers to Excel data. In my Word file, I have
embedded the Excel file as an Excel object that displays as icon. (No link
to original file.)

I then copy data from the embedded Excel object and paste it with a link in

However, when I try to update the data in the Excel object, it only updates
the linked Word tables for a short time. As soon as I close the embedded
Excel object, the link seems to disappear and I get an error message when I
try to update links.
Links from outside information into embedded objects are tenuous, at best. If
the tables in the Word document are static, the link into an Excel object
embedded in the same document usually works as long as the document has first
been saved and the file name doesn't change.

But if you link an Excel table into a Word document, then link the embedded
object to that, it won't work. This is because Word generates a bookmark
around the Word table to identify where the embedded object should look. When
the table - linked to external Excel data - is updated, this bookmark is lost.
So the embedded object can no longer find the bookmark.

Thank you! Not knowing why it wasn't working was driving me crazy! :)

I finally embedded the Word file on a separate sheet in the Excel file and
that works.
