Pls advise on a system to scan documents

O

ozymate

Our company management wants to transfer thousands of papers in the
archive to digital form by scanning. The scanned files will then be
accesssed through the network by the authorised users. The files do
not require any modification on them, so no need for an OCR system.

Please advise on:

- Server
- Software
- Scanner
- Document format
- Other requirements

to accomplish the task.

Thanks,

We've been scanning about 3000 pages/month using our departmental
copier, a Lanier, which scans at 30 ipm. It jams a lot and we're not
happy with the quality of the images.

Last week, we bought one of the new Fujitsu ScanSnaps:
- $500 but with a $100 rebate and a copy of Acrobat 6.0.
- 15 sheets/min (i.e., almost 1000 sheets/hour) and scans both sides
of the sheet at the same time.
- One-button operation.
- USB 2.0 interface.
- Very high quality images.
- Seems to handle ripped and abused paper quite well.
- 50-sheet ADF.
Over the next two weeks, we'll stress test it for jamming and for
ability to handle a continuous stream of 1000 sheets. If it does
at all well, we will buy three or four more and distribute them
around the department.
