Plextor PX- 712A

I have a Plextor PX-712A about 4 years old it plays video OK but the
sound has been getting choppy it does the same thing on audio files that
I have burned on it. I am wondering if any one has any idea about what
is going on. My guess is it is something to do with the Read head but,
I'm not a hardware guy. I have monkeyed around with Plextools to see if
the settings were screwed up but, that does not seem to be the issue.

Thanks for any help--I will try and find my local hardware guru but, I
think he is out of business--bummer.

Just a thought but does it support DMA and is it being used in the IDE
controller? Look in Device Manager at the IDE channels Properties
Advanced settings tab, for DMA as opposed to PIO.

Playing video requires your drive to move
data MUCH faster than playing audio will. So
it doesn't make sense that the drive is at fault.

I would look for problems in your player software
setups, or another botched MS Update that you might
have recently installed.
